Normal Cheapest Laptop: Axioo Neon MNC 815C
Who read this may want to immediately know, the cheapest is what? Simply: 4 million dollars. There may be more or less or a little expensive, but it is not far from that figure. Then why do I say 'Laptops Normal'? The term 'normal' in terms of size, because the current supply size 'not normal', ie the so-called Nettop it. This little story can be read on another blog entry, the title 'My Second Luck ... ".
OK. The focus of this paper is to review things. Problem specification is discussed in my previous article, or can be viewed here. Then how comfort, performance, completeness, battery life, and other qualities? I summarize the course of the following points:
1.
About comfort, it's casual glance, but there is not so easy I explained here, which is about feel. Problem taste, especially my hands are typing and palms resting on the left & right trackpad. Frankly not as comfortable as if I typed using Toshiba laptops, Acer, or Asus. It's very subjective, although it does not bother me. But the point about typing is, the button in the left bottom corner on this laptop is not the Ctrl and Fn. I said it was important because anyone familiar with the computer work faster, that shortcut is part of muscle memory (and many who use the shortcut key combinations with Ctrl). Ctrl position there is a ternyaman to type and run the shortcut quickly.
Another thing is about display. I thought could use a resolution of 1280 x 800 as described in the specification, but it's in Windows 7 Enterprise that I use now, maximum is 1024 x 768. The result is a slightly shortened display vertically. But this does not happen if we are using XP or Vista. Problem is that one is my laptop because it implicitly assumes that the OS will use the XP or Vista. I know exactly about this because there BIOSnya OS option to be used. Perhaps actually Windows 7 also be at 1280 x 800 mode, only now there may be drivers who not allow for that. For now, I'm more interested in agility than the display, so that I use on this laptop is Windows 7, although the other partitions as well install my XP and Vista.
How to XP? Resolution 1280 x 800 can be achieved, and about the hustle do not ask again. It's blazing fast! (especially now that it's RAM I added a 2 Giga). Only the XP partition, unfortunately I can not access anymore because multi-OS installation problem that I can not overcome until now.
My other findings are, at the default settings, Vista looks bright display it. When we derived, rather strangely back again into the light some time later, the brightness indicator that suddenly appeared on the screen. While in Windows 7 explained in my opinion is more proportional size, and not suddenly change their own light. Maybe it's because Windows 7 is more enhanced in the affairs of power saving.
I suggest to use the XP laptop is just so fast and comfortable on the display. That is if you do not have to use as my new OS.
2.
About performance, I'm just thinking realistically. Not because I owned this laptop is giving people, but because of my work with this laptop is mostly word processing and Internet access, so even though its processor is a Celeron (Dual Core), I was feeling very pretty. Ok, maybe not as fast as their performance when used OS is XP, but in Windows 7 that I use now, not quite feel the lag. All normal. Previously it had me worried, so I decided to upgrade its memory to 2 Giga. But perhaps 1 Giga enough if using XP and the processor load is not too heavy with the work we do. Slot his own memory there are two, and its maximum memory is 4 Giga. The odd thing, though I put 2 pieces of memory with the same type, CPU-Z just declare it as a single channel. Perhaps this problem was the motherboard that does not suport dual channel. (This can be seen on one screen shot of CPU-Z at the bottom)
If memory can be added to the laptop, it was not strange. But new for me is this laptop it can be upgraded his processor. I read it somewhere, either on site or Terra Computer Toshiba official website. But why do that? People who did this to me if you do not fool ya gatel just because a lot of money. If you want a more powerful, should have been decided from the beginning to buy a higher processor, and the price of the laptop would be more than 4 million.
3.
With regard to completeness, at the time of purchase, which is in the sales package are: a). laptop; b). charger; c). CD software driver and the Linux OS; d). manual. While the shop is a bonus in the form: shaped backpack laptop bag, optical mouse, and keyboard protective silicone sheet. Its standard charger only. There are two software CDs, one for drivers and a Linux OS. Installing the drivers fairly easily. The interface it will recognize what OS we use that when running the first time we did not choose which files should be in a click. For Windows 7 that I use this, I use all the drivers for Vista, and when I do auto update did not find any notice of updates. So it is with XP and Vista.
Unfortunately the sales package does not include a licensed OS. And laptop / nettop others already offer this. Fortunately my office had to license Windows, so any package without the OS does not matter to me. But what can we expect more than a normal laptop with the cheapest price is? Because if we want a bundle OS, of course the price will not be 4 million.
4.
What about battery life? Perhaps because of the influence of the used processor, this laptop is not so durable power. But I think it is quite normal. Are we expected to sit for hours working with a laptop without an outlet at all? Of course not. Based on the experience so far, Neon MNC 815C battery can last about 2 hours more for normal typing, and without any other background task. In Windows 7 (the final version of his most durable known than the other Microsoft OS), there are several power modes: Balanced, Power Saver, and High Performance. I say more that 2 hours is the Balanced mode. It would be much longer if used with Power Saver mode. As for the batteries alone type Li-Ion Mitac made with output power of 11.1 V and 4400mAh. Own batteries were given word that sell 2-year warranty. Let's hope it's true.
Anything interesting about the battery. Axioo ads in CHIP magazine said that when charging is complete until 100% then the charger does not need removed, because the battery will automatically not be charged again. The flow of electricity from the charger directly into the laptop will not be stopped by the battery. Ok, well just then, but I do not want to follow that advice. From the first I use, this laptop always stand bye as soon as I got home from work until the morning. If I turn off even on the day. I did it with a laptop in a disconnected state to the electricity, but I pull the battery. With treatment like that, so far doing fine.
5.
Sound quality. Speaking of this, it is true that the specifications are optimized for XP or Vista. I had to write this because my experience to music playback in Windows 7 really different with the two other OS's. There are no significant problems in XP or Vista. Smooth voice output only, though we're typing or operating the mouse to any desktop purposes. But on Windows 7, it turns out our activities affect the sound output. When typing is not heard no disturbance, but when sliding the mouse / scroll up down, the speaker's voice out gemerutuk / crackle-crackle. Create a happy work while listening to music, it would be uncomfortable. The voice was not dominant at all, but especially when we run or turn off other programs that will appear gemerutuk a moment, then disappeared. Clearly, this is not ideal for those who do the work record while doing other work. Once again, this is the OS Windows 7. In XP and Vista I did not find this disorder. Did I perhaps have to wait for Windows 7 Service Pack 1? In device manager, sound device was only referred to as High Definition Audio Device only.
6.
64-bit platform. WEI on the page, either in Vista or in Windows 7 we are able to click: View and print detailed performance and system information. From the information in it we can know whether a computer can run 64-bit OS or not. Apparently Neon MNC can 815C for 64 bits. But I did not continue to install it. The problem lies in the drivers. All drivers can be installed properly, except the drivers for the Wifi. When I try to install Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, but that there wifi drivers were not able to make his name appear in the device manager. Clearly, if this had wifi will not work. I've search on the Internet if there's 64 bitnya version. It did not / does not exist. Chip is the Realtek RTL 8187B. This seems to me not to try again for 64-bit XP or Vista 64 bit.
So far that's about my assessment of the Axioo Neon MNC 815C. Obviously not the best, but obviously is the best bang for the buck. If you buy a laptop and wish there prestige value, then the MNC Neon 815C not for you. But if with a limited budget you want to have a laptop for work and productive, Neon MNC 815 could be an option. But as far as I know, that choice may not / does not exist. Because until now I have not found the 'normal laptop' other costs to compete with this Toshiba output.
